Conservation Areas at Risk
In 2009 English Heritage conducted a survey of Conservation Areas – the first of it’s kind. The results of this survey revealed a number of threats to the character and appearance of conservation areas:-
- Unsympathetic replacement doors and windows
- poorly maintained roads and pavements
- loss of boundary walls, fences, hedges
- unsightly satellite dishes
- the effects of traffic calming or traffic management
- alterations to front elevations, roofs and chimneys
- unsympathetic new extenstions
- the impact of advertisements
- neglected green spaces
Since 2010 conservation areas have been included on Heritage at Risk Register published by English Heritage. The English Heritage website contains more information on Conservation Areas at Risk.
